How to Choose the Best Toys for 5 6 Year Old Boys
Use these pointers to narrow down the best toys for 5 6 year old boys for the family you are shopping for.
What 6 Year Olds Love
Six year olds are curious, chatty and proud of new skills. They enjoy building sets they can finish on their own, pretend play, simple board games, crafts and anything that lets them run and jump.
Respect the Age Label
Age grades on toys are about safety as much as skill. The CPSC requires warnings on toys with small parts that are choking hazards for children under 3, and advises keeping deflated balloons away from kids under 8. If a younger sibling shares the playroom, pick toys that are safe for the youngest child.

Mix Screens With Screen-Free Play
Many of the best gifts are open-ended: blocks, magnetic tiles, art kits, pretend play and outdoor toys. They can be played a hundred different ways and grow with your child. Electronic toys are fun, but balance them with toys that make kids build, imagine and move.
Choose Toys That Grow With Them
Convertible toys (walkers that become wagons, trikes that become balance bikes, LEGO sets that build three models) and open-ended toys stay interesting longer, which makes them better value.
